Vacancy for a full or part-time Veterinary Surgeon

Independent Clinic

Haywards Heath, West Sussex

Permanent full or part time vet with at least 12 months experience required for 100% small animal clinic at the Best Vets in West Sussex 2021, The Mewes Vets Ltd, Haywards Heath.

No OOH, paid overtime, flexible weekday shifts, 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.

Our colleague is following her dream, so we are looking for a new vet to join our multi-award winning team. Check out our website at themewesvets.co.uk to choose any of our team to have a chat with before applying.

Haywards Heath is a wealthy area of Sussex where clients appreciate our “treating pets as friends” approach, and our constant endeavour to uphold our one-pet-one-vet concept. We register patients with one of our vets, and always attempt to allow them to see the same vet, at each appointment, unless their problem is an emergency, or the vet is on leave.

We intend to remain proudly independent for at least the next ten years, and are Tier 2 RCVS accredited. I want you to be able to think for yourself, and make a treatment plan that is best for the patient AND the client’s budget.

We have digital x-ray, dental x-ray, an excellent ultrasound machine and in-house lab. We use sevoflurane anaesthesia, and have a visiting scanner, endoscopist, laser acupuncturist, dermatologist, ophthalmologist and orthopaedic surgeon. The team is 3.5 FTVE, ably supported by 8 long serving highly competent RVNs, 2 SVNs about to qualify and 4 support staff. Last summer we celebrated our quarter century of caring for the pets in Haywards Heath.

Certificate holders, or those working towards certification are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have 5 weeks’ paid holiday, paid CPD and memberships, and support towards a certificate, if required.

Join our genuinely supportive team, and stretch your wings, doing veterinary practice for all the reasons you joined the profession.

Attractions in the area: A good mix of the urban and rural. The South Downs National Park is on the doorstep and separates us from the excitement of cosmopolitan Brighton, with its Pavilion, Theatres, festivals, pier and beach. We are surrounded by pretty farmland with extensive dog walks and riding options, both equine and pedal powered. Within easy reach of central London and the rest of the world via Gatwick, yet peaceful and spacious when at home. The clinic is situated in central Haywards Heath, within walking distance of the shops, several gyms and the station, but also local woods. It backs onto a pleasant park.

We have 4 OVs, one colleague is working towards certification in imaging, with another hoping to start her certificate in medicine soon. Dr Mewes holds certificates in both radiology and small animal medicine, as well as being both a VetGDP Advisor and peer reviewer.

The position requires a vet capable of sole charge on a Saturday morning, or for an hour or two in the evenings. However, support and second cover can easily be arranged if appropriate, until the recruit feels confident.

Attributes of person required:

  • empathy for the patient, and their owner as well as for colleagues.
  • excellent communication skills.
  • ability to apply skills learnt at University in a practical GP situation.
