The Mewes Vets opened in Haywards Heath in 1996 and has built into a multi award-winning, RCVS-accredited practice, with a reputation for being a great place to work.

We were crowned the first ever “Best Vets in West Sussex” in 2021, and in the top 25 in the UK in 2019, 2020 and 2023, and shortlisted in 2024 and 2025. This could be down to our “one pet, one vet” policy – meaning every time a client visits, they’ll see a familiar face, ensuring continuity of care for patients and allowing us to build strong bonds with both them and their owners, while also helping to make the practice a lovely place to work in.

We are looking for a vet with some experience to join our existing team. We can accommodate colleagues who need full-time or part-time hours. We do insist that everyone in our team does at least one evening clinic per week and 1:3 Saturday mornings (until 12.30pm). We particularly need a new colleague on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

There are no out-of-hours as this will be outsourced to another clinic 20 minutes away. If we run late, which is unusual, or if your (unpaid) lunchbreak has to be missed for professional reasons, any overtime is paid – you are not expected to work overtime for free. You will be encouraged to develop and maintain a good work-life balance, and overtime is not the norm here.

We are offering:

• a salary of £42,000 to £61,500pa, depending on experience and additional certificates. This is before overtime and bonuses. (Calculated based on a 37 hour planned week. Calculated based on £22.00 to £32.00 per hour.)
• five weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays.
• a £2,000 annual CPD allowance for both full-time and part-time vets.
• professional fees paid for.

We need a vet colleague looking to settle down and enjoy building close bonds with their clients and patients. This is a GP position, to be based potentially in all 3 of our sites, depending on the day of the week, for first opinion work for cats, dogs and small furries. So we need someone interested in excellent communication whilst consulting and capable of routine surgical procedures, although operating is optional, if a wholly consulting role is preferred.

Our site in Rottingdean is a tiny village vets, with just one consulting room, operating theatre and small hospital.

Our newly opened site in Peacehaven has four consulting rooms, a large theatre and prep / hospital area. We have air conditioning at both these sites, and share digital radiography, digital dental radiography, an ultrasound scanner, and in house laboratory, including microscopy.

Our Haywards Heath site has 4 consulting rooms, two operating theatres, and two hospitals. Here we have digital radiography, digital dental radiography, a high tech ultrasound scanner, in house laboratory, including microscopy, and air conditioning.

We already employ a team of 8 vets, 13 RVNS, and 7 receptionists, all guided by our practice manager. As the only independent GP vets in the Brighton BN postcode and in Peacehaven we continue to establish an excellent reputation and build our client list all the time.
