Meet the Mewes Vets veterinary surgeons

Dr Marc Abraham veterinary surgeons

The Sussex-based independent Mewes Vets are hosting an open morning with an opportunity to meet all three of their veterinary surgeons.

This will be held at their brand new Peacehaven branch at 44 Lincoln Avenue on Saturday 24th February from 11am.

Meeting the veterinary surgeons

Coffee and pastries will be served, whilst guests will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to our newest vet, Dr Jacob Sen, Dr Marc Abraham OBE and practice principal Dr Julia Mewes. Everyone is welcome to pop in, especially well-behaved dogs, who will discover plenty of treats to enjoy!

The Mewes Vets’ brand new vet Dr Jacob Sen was born and raised in Basingstoke, Jacob qualified from Cambridge Vet School, which is also where Julia trained. He then spent three years honing his skills in an accredited veterinary hospital and in smaller practice environments. Jacob has a special interest in diagnostic imaging, medicine and the emergency and critical care of our four-legged friends. Jacob also enjoys playing flute to a professional performance level and has also been nominated for a prestigious Pet Plan Vet of the Year award for 2023.

OBE is a multi-award-winning vet, author, broadcaster and animal welfare campaigner and was recently awarded the Honour for Services to Animal Welfare by King Charles III. ‘Marc the Vet’ as he is usually known, led the successful ‘Lucy’s Law’ campaign in Westminster to ban commercial third-party puppy and kitten sellers, making all UK dog and cat breeders accountable. Marc is also the co-founder and secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG) and visits local schools to chat with pupils about caring for animals and looking out for one other.

Dr Julia Mewes

Julia veterinary surgeon

Founded The Mewes Vets in 1996 in Hayward Heath and was inspired to create a different kind of veterinary clinic where patients can see the same vet every time and their care is the primary concern of the whole team, rather than financial targets and satisfying a corporate business model. Julia recently created two more practices, one in Rottingdean, proudly the only independently owned vets in the BN2 postcode and another which is the only independent vets in Peacehaven, with Marc, Jacob and a hand-picked team of colleagues to assist her.

The Mewes Vets embrace a heartfelt ethos to treat your pets as friends, with each surgery run with integrity, flexibility, compassion and the best interests of our clients and their pets at the heart of everything that we do. All our staff are dedicated animal enthusiasts and want to assist you in making your visit to us as stress-free and personal as possible. The Mewes Vets’ place in the community is hugely important, actively supporting local businesses animal welfare organisations and the world-famous Dogtember at Saltdean Lido!
