Fundraising success

Congratulations to Hugo and his family!

This wonderful portrait of Labrador puppy, Hugo in his smart bow tie, was the overall winner in our 2021 calendar competition.

The Mayor of Haywards Heath, Cllr Alastair McPherson, picked this gorgeous photo. Hugo won 2 large bags of puppy food, and the honour of being the cover superstar on our charity calendar.

Twelve other lucky finalists became the supermodel of the month, beating a record number of entries for the accolade.

Best of all, despite the constraints of lockdown, we have sold a record number of calendars already!

This is really good news for this year’s charity choice: Pets as Therapy.

Founded in 1983, Pets as Therapy provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and prisons. Wherever they can bring comfort, a team of a person and their specially selected pet cat or dog go.

I used to visit my local nursing home with my terrier Bella as a PAT dog. It was wonderful to see the smiles she caused on arrival. Everybody wanted to stroke her, and tell me their stories about their own pets. There is no question about the benefit of time spent with a loving animal.

If you would like to know more about Pets as Therapy, or how to volunteer or donate, go to their website petsastherapy.org .

We send a big thank you to our sponsors Virbac, Hills, Protexin and Royal Canin; to the Mayor for being a wonderful judge; and to Mark at Blue Pixel Design for once again creating the layout free of charge. Mark ensured that every family who entered had one of their entries featured in the calendar, making it a beautiful record of local pets.

Thanks to Helen at The Mewes, who single-handedly organised the whole competition and calendar.

And our final thanks go to all the wonderful pet-loving families who entered the competition. Your photos were quite beautiful. If you would like to order a calendar (please be aware they won’t be ready for collection until after the New Year), please email us on enquiries@themewes.co.uk

We had a record number of entries, and record calendar sales, meaning a record donation this year. What a great way to end a horrid year!
