Julia’s Weekly Column For The Middy – Join us for some friendly feline fun at the National Cat Adoption Centre!

At The Mewes Vets we are very proud of our new service – our ‘Cat Only Clinics’.

Three times a week we set aside four to five 15 minute appointments in a row for cats only, respectfully asking dog owners to book their appointments during a different time.

This is done at a time when our friendly feline expert Jean Dyas is on duty. She has a Certificate in Feline Medicine, showing her commitment to and love of cats, and of acquiring further knowledge about their care beyond her veterinary degree.

I love going into the Clinic during our ‘Cat Only’ times. There is definitely a different atmosphere. The ambience is calm and relaxed, and as much as I love my canine friends, there is much less of the woof and the bounce. It all seems so much more serene.

All the team at The Mewes feel that cats should never be treated as if they were second class citizens, but when we go out into the community it is very rare for them to be seen or represented. Not this week! I am really looking forward to being part of the Cats Protection Summer Fun Day this weekend, and being surrounded by cat lovers for a change.

This Sunday 17th July from 10am until 4pm the National Cat Adoption Centre will open its doors again for its highly-anticipated Summer Fun Day. There will be a live band, beer tent, BBQ, inflatable slide, children’s games, facepainting, stalls, and a birds of prey display.

The local fire brigade will also be on site, and my team and I will be meeting cat lovers to tell them about our Cat Only Clinics, and to show off my new book ‘Caring for Your Older Cat’.

You can also meet all the adorable cats of the Adoption Centre by taking a look behind the scenes on one of their tours.

So, come along to the Cats Protection Summer Fun Day on 17 July 2016. Entry is free, although a donation of some cat food or a cat toy would be much appreciated by the team and gratefully received by the feline residents.
