New tooth brushing service for dogs

I’ve always been as interested in preventing illness as I am in curing it.
For years I have been encouraging as many puppy and kitten owners as I can to train their
new four-legged friends not to be afraid of having their teeth brushed, and some succeed.
But I still feel that we vets spend far too much time sorting out dirty mouths and rotten teeth
under general anaesthetic.
So this month we are launching a new approach.
We have trained our RVNs (Registered Veterinary Nurses) on the use of the innovative
Emmi-pet ultrasonic toothbrush. We can now offer the service of regular toothbrushing for
dogs of all ages and sizes at the Mewes Vets for a very affordable price.
Our goals are, firstly, not to frighten or upset our patients. After all, we want them to trust us
to care for them throughout their lives.
So we are offering an initial free of charge consultation for the RVN to assess the individual’s
response to the idea of toothbrushing, and whether they might tolerate the ultrasonic device.
And our second goal is the long term health of the teeth and gums.
Did you know that toothbrushing is the number one preventative for dental disease?
Dogs rarely suffer from caries, which is common in people who eat a lot of sugary treats. But
food and germs do build up on and between pet’s teeth, resulting in gingivitis and tartar. This
can progress not only to bad breath and the loss of teeth, but also threatens the health of the
pet’s kidneys and heart valves.
Every patient will have their own personal toothbrush head, and will be treated with the
patience and kindness that you expect from the Mewes.
After the initial assessment, the first session of 15 minutes costs just £30.00, and includes
the first toothbrush. Subsequent sessions cost just £25.00.
To arrange for one of our gentle and skilled RVNs to assess your pet’s suitability for this
dental service, and hopefully prevent future extractions, please call us on 01444 456886.
