Join The Mewes Vets team for a barking mad dog show at Haywards Heath’s annual Town Day

My lovely team at The Mewes Vets have the rosettes and prizes ready, we just need your company and your precious canine companion, of course!

This Saturday 17th September is our annual Dog Show, held as part of Town Day in Victoria Park. The ‘Great British Bark Off’ will include old favourites like ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Most Handsome Boy’, as well as new classes ‘Scruffiest Pooch’ & ‘Best Veteran’ and a new improved competition: ‘The Fastest Biscuit Eater’.

Last year this was a new innovation, and attracted a huge number of entries, all dog owners being convinced that their pet was easily the greediest of all. The overall winner was a beautiful Labrador who downed his in just 13 seconds! Can your best friend beat that?

We’re also hosting a fancy dress competition, so I encourage you to start planning your fancy dress outfits. I’ve been known to award extra points to owners who are dressed up with their pets, so get creative!

Signing your dog up for competitions couldn’t be easier. Join us in Victoria Park at 12pm to sign in for the classes you would like to attend; judging of the first class will start at 1pm. All the first prize winners will go through to a grand final for Best In Show in the main arena at 3.15pm.

To see a list of all the classes and find out more about the event, go to www.themewesvets.co.uk/events.

Our kind photographer, Woody, will be there taking portraits of all the entrants. This year we particularly invite dogs over 7 years of age to attend, as we’ll be looking for portraits to illustrate my new book on canine mobility: ‘Caring for dogs with arthritis’.

Come along, and you may find your pet is the cover model for this soon-to-be-published book!

Meanwhile, don’t forget to send us your photos for our Calendar 2017 Competition. It’s free to enter for all pet owners, and the winner will receive £100 of their choice of pet food. The top shots will be used to create a beautiful 2017 calendar to be sold in aid of wonderful local charity Paws and Claws. The closing date for your entry is 31st October. Send your entries, together with your name and email address, to enquiries@themewes.co.uk.
