We are having an exciting week at The Mewes, with two big events coming up.
Firstly we have launched our annual pet Supermodel Competition. I had noticed that our canine pals had been over-represented as Pet of the Year. But last year, our overall winner was fabulous black and white puss, Chenoa, our first feline champion.
Some people say that cats, especially black cats, are hard to photograph. Incredibly this is cited as a reason why black cats are less sought after from rescue centres, along with their traditionally negative associations with witchcraft. But cats of any colour can make wonderful models, if you have the patience to catch them from their best angle!
This year we will be creating our 2019 calendar made up from your photographs entered into the competition. All sales of this calendar will go to The Cinnamon Trust, the wonderful charity for the elderly, the terminally ill and their pets.
The Trust’s primary objective is to respect and preserve the treasured relationship between owners and their pets. To this end it works in partnership with owners to overcome any difficulties that might arise. A national network of over 15,000 community service volunteers has been established to provide practical help when any aspect of day to day care poses a problem – for example, walking the dog for a housebound owner, or providing foster care for a pet whose owner goes into hospital. Do enter our competition by emailing your top pet shots to Helen Bentley, with your name, and help support this wonderful cause. Entries close on Wednesday 31st October.
Our second excitement of the week is Haywards Heath Town Day this Saturday 8th September. We have an RAF themed set of Dog Show classes, and all the prizes and rosettes ready for take-off, as we help to celebrate 100 years of the RAF. Bring all the family to enter from midday. We start judging at 1pm. For full details go to themewesvets.co.uk/events
This is also a great occasion to capture an action or entertaining pet portrait, so bring your cameras too! The pet Supermodel competition will be judged by the Haywards Heath Mayor, Councillor James Knight, and the winners announced at our Christmas Party on Saturday 1st December.
