Treatments & surgery

Treatments & surgery

You can rest assured that your pet is in the safest hands.

We want all pets to enjoy a high-quality of life, and that’s why we always make sure they’re treated against fleas and worms.

We offer treatments to combat fleats, worms, fly strike (rabbits) and more. A worm infestation can go unnoticed until fatal symptoms begin to appear, whilst fleas won’t just irritate your pet – they can also affect you and your family.

As well as administering treatments, we can also identify any current infections and share advice on the best options for products you can administer to your pet at home.

Surgery & operations

Our veterinary surgeons and nurses are all highly trained, with years of operating experience. The Mewes has two state-of-the-art operating theatres, where we regularly conduct routine and more serious operations.

And we’ll do everything we can do to make your pet’s time in our practice as comfortable and stress-free as possible, from admission to going home.

Neutering — It's one of the most common and straightforward procedures we perform. If you don’t want to breed from your pet, then it’s a responsible and financially sensible option. Neutering can also help to prevent attracting unwanted behaviour, breast cancer and uterus infections in female pets. In males, it can help to prevent aggressive behaviour, roaming, urinary marking and testicular cancer.

We’re proud to be a centre of excellence for veterinary acupuncture. This specialist treatment can help provide pain relief and improve mobility. There aren’t many practices in the UK able to offer this unique treatment, so we’re delighted to have a fully qualified veterinary acupuncturist at The Mewes.

Acupuncture is not a cure-all solution, but it could help improve your pet’s quality of life. It’s many uses and benefits include:

•  Pain relief
•  Stimulating the body’s natural defence systems
•  Efficiency in a range of problems including chronic diseases
•  An alternative when harmful medication side effects are a concern
•  Being used for conditions unresponsive to medication
•  Being used to complement conventional medicine
